Now its time to take a tour around the country of Zimbabwe, showing you the school of nursing and colleges that offers Bsc in nursing sciences.

PARIRENYATWA GROUP OF HOSPITALS SCHOOL OF NURSING
PARIRENYATWA GROUP OF HOSPITALS SCHOOL OF NURSING

It is the largest referral hospital in Zimbabwe, located at the heart of the country in the capital city of Harare. It has general medical and surgical, maternity department, eye or ophthalmic centre, a paediatric centre, psychiatric department and theatres.

The school of nursing has three intakes per year (January, May and September Intakes). Enrolled at Parirenyatwa gives you an opportunity to be exposed to a variety of conditions, people and environment.

Clinical area attachment is an exciting and great experience of life. Another advantage is that accommodation is available for all students throughout the training period of three years.

The hospital is also closer to the CBD where shopping and everything is easily accessible.

The school has good tutors, classrooms, desks and a good learning environment designed for its students.

HARARE CENTRAL HOSPITAL

Harare Hospital is located in the Southern District of Harare and is the referral centre for the northern half of Zimbabwe and it occasionally has from patients outside of Zimbabwe.  The school of nursing is located within hospital premises. There are three intakes per year (January, May and September intakes) and adverts are posted in the newspapers. The school offers accommodation for its students throughout the three year training period. There is also a library available at the school. The graduation ceremony is done every year.

CHITUNGWIZA CENTRAL HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING

CHITUNGWIZA CENTRAL HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSINGChitungwiza hospital is a government referral institution located about thirty kilometres south-east of Harare City Centre. It has medical, surgical and paediatric departments.

The school of nursing is situated on the hospital premises. The school of nursing has highly qualified staff of about twenty-five tutors and can contain about two hundred and thirty students.

It has three intakes per year (January, May and September) and the adverts are posted in the Herald or Sunday Mail.

Students graduate every year and attain medals. The pass rate is usually 100%. Accommodation for its students is available throughout the training period.

MPLO CENTRAL HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING

Mpilo Hospital is the largest referral hospital for Matebeleland, Midlands and Masvingo Provinces and is located in the city of Bulawayo.

It has family support unity, opportunistic Infection centre, HIV Laboratory, Maternity, Radiology, Casualty, Paediatric, Medical and Surgical departments.

The school of nursing is located on the premises of the hospital. There are three intakes per year (January, May and September)and graduation is done every year.

Advantages of being enrolled at Mpilo School of Nursing are that of accommodation and environment conducive for learning as well as meeting people of diverse culture.

UNITED BULAWAYO HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING

UNITED BULAWAYO HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSINGIt is a group of hospitals located in the Eastern part of Bulawayo. The school of nursing provides accommodation for its student throughout the training period. There is a library available for students.

Students get an opportunity of clinical attachment in all departments of the hospital which includes, medical, surgical, pediatric, theatre and ophthalmic departments.

The hospital recruits student nurses three times a year meaning they have January, May and September Intake which are advertised in the local newspapers. Their pass rate is 100%.

GWERU PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING

Gweru Hospital is located in the Midlands province and is the provincial referral hospital. The school of nursing is situated on the hospital premises and well built with proper ventilation and lighting for

Gweru Central Hospitallearners. The school has highly qualified tutors and clinical instructors which produce hardworking and competent nurses.

The students benefit from the clinical attachment where they get involved in the activities occurring in the wards. There are medical, surgical, paediatric, maternity, outpatient, casualty and theatre departments.

Accommodation is also available for its students however it is not enough for all students.

The hospital recruits student nurses three times a year meaning they have January, May and September Intake which are advertised in the local newspapers. Their pass rate is 100%.

PROVINCIAL HOSPITALS

These are schools of nursing located within provincial hospital premises and they usually have the least number of students per intake as compared to those school of nursing found at central hospitals.

For student nurses, the learning environment is conducive, for clinical attachment students mostly benefit as they tend to be more involved.

Enrolment is usually three times a year and recruitment is done by the government through the electronic system.

DISTRICT HOSPITALS

These are district hospitals which refer their patients to a provincial hospital. School of nursing is found within the premises of the hospital.

Recruitment is done in small numbers as the hospital is smaller than the provincial hospital. An advantage of learning at a district hospital is that you learn and the tutors will have a good student-teacher ratio.

However, for clinical experience you will be referred to a central hospital where exposure is high. Enrolment is also done three times a year, but graduation is usually done after two years. Below are examples of district hospitals;

MISSION HOSPITALS

These are Christian owned hospitals with standards that are regularly reviewed. Recruitment is usually based on the fraternity.

Mission hospitals school of nursing have their unique way of running programs however the learning syllabus for students is the same with that of government hospitals.

There are doctrines, rules and guidelines that differ from the government. The advantage is that mission hospitals also enrol a certain number of students per year and they are not mandated to recruit three times a year.

Another advantage is that accommodation is available for all students throughout the training program and the pass rate usually beats up to 100%. Adverts are posted in local newspapers. Below is a list of mission hospitals

General hospitals usually operate the way provincial hospitals do. They are run by the government and the recruitment process is through electronic. Below is the list of general hospitals;

Colleges offer Bsc in Nursing Science which is a four-year course and its full time on a desk at a college. Advantages are that you will become a degreed nurse who has more knowledge of administration than clinical area.

You can upgrade quickly unlike a nurse with a diploma, and chances of getting a job after you qualify are high.

Another advantage is that you will be guided by the university terms and conditions. Enrollment depends on the college. A’ Level is a must unless you have a diploma in nursing.
